Give agentic applications a task, authority and a result to prove.

My starting question is whether we can trust an application enough to leave a defined piece of work with it. Useful autonomy is earned at the level of a business process: a clear outcome, permitted actions and evidence of what happened.

The opportunity is substantial. Applications can coordinate more of the work while people set objectives and retain responsibility for the boundaries.

Start with a task someone owns

Choose a process with an identifiable owner, a clear result and evidence of completion. Understand where people lose time, what they check and which applications they use.

“Improve employee service” is a direction. Handling a defined request with the right information, permitted actions and route to human help is a scope a team can engineer and test.

Explaining a payroll policy, comparing personal payslips and changing payroll each need their own data, authority and acceptance tests.

Define authority outside the prompt

A business objective needs an explicit authority model. Establish:

  1. Whose identity and authority the application uses.
  2. Which records and sources it may access.
  3. Which actions it may perform and under what conditions.
  4. What requires approval or must stop.
  5. How partial completion, failure and uncertain outcomes are handled.
  6. Which evidence records the result.

These decisions shape interfaces, access controls and tests. Enforce permissions in the systems executing the work and test those controls alongside the agent.

Combine reasoning with predictable computation

AI can interpret a request, work through information and coordinate a response. Conventional software handles calculations, validation, record selection and controlled application calls.

A known process may suit an explicit workflow. A more adaptive process may need planning within defined limits. In either case, confirm what was attempted, what completed and what still needs attention through application responses and recorded evidence.

Put Fusion Claw to work on a defined outcome

On 29 September 2026, Oracle announced Fusion Claw as a governed execution runtime for Fusion Agentic Applications, combining AI reasoning with deterministic enterprise computation. Oracle said 25 Claw-powered agentic applications were available, with built-in governance and security controls.

That direction moves the unit of value from an isolated response toward a coordinated business outcome. The practical questions remain specific: which process, what authority, which surrounding systems and how to evaluate the result?

My approach is to assess native capability first, engineer the remaining requirement and expand autonomy as the process demonstrates reliable behaviour under its defined controls.

Connect the systems doing the work

Fusion may hold the central record while a workforce system owns scheduling and operational changes. Define which application owns each record and action, then build the interfaces and exception handling across that boundary.

Integration and bespoke software earn their place through the business task. At Occamonics, we keep the user experience, application logic and operating team connected through delivery.

Turn operating evidence into a release decision

Oracle provides observability, ROI measurement and safety controls. The service owner needs to connect that evidence to outcomes for the actual process.

Keep routing, answer quality, human handoff and unresolved demand distinct. Inspect conversations and exceptions, assign responsibility for the next decision and combine findings with human review, testing and controlled release.

Use maintained knowledge and plan the next application step

For document-led questions, start with maintained, permissioned sources. Retrieve relevant passages, distinguish policy guidance from personal-record evidence and test the answer against its sources. This gives retrieval a defined role within the wider application.

Oracle's prepackaged Fusion SaaS skills for Oracle Digital Assistant are discontinued on 21 November 2026. Use the transition to map the tasks employees rely on and choose the next useful Agent Studio scope.

Agree the outcome, permitted actions, acceptance tests and operating owner. Make the first release useful and inspectable, then use service evidence to decide what deserves more autonomy.
